Tottenham keen on landing Genoa’s £30m-rated forward Piatek

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham have received glowing reports on Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek and are keen on a move for the forward, according to TEAMtalk.

What’s the word?

As the debate concerning Harry Kane and whether he is in need of a rest rumbles on, Mauricio Pochettino may have an ace up his sleeve behind the scenes as Tottenham are amongst the running to sign a forward who has exploded onto the scene this season.

TEAMtalk names Tottenham as one of three Premier League sides that have received glowing reports on Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, alongside Manchester City and Liverpool, after the Polish forward’s spectacular start to life in Serie A.

Signed for just £4m this summer, Genoa already value the 6ft tall 23-year-old at around £30m after his stunning start to the season has seen him become the first player in European football to reach double figures during the 2018-19 campaign.

Should Spurs move?

With Kane lacking support as his only back-up is a misfiring Fernando Llorente, Pochettino should have a new forward at the top of his wishlist in January, and the additio of Piatek would give him the frontline he has wanted for years.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”301458″ player=”12034″ title=”The Problem With Paul Pogba”]

Piatek has already scored eight league goals this season from just six appearances, which includes a brace against Frosinone on Sunday, and also hit four in his Coppa Italia debut against Lecce at the start of the campaign.

His fantastic form sees him sit top of the Serie A scoring charts, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, with Genoa punching above their weight and sitting sixth in the standings, ahead of Roma, Lazio and Milan, with a game in hand on the sides above them.

What Were They Thinking? The Most Insane Own Goals Of All-Time

Is there anything more embarrassing than scoring an own goal? Probably not.

Sometimes they can’t be helped, a deflection or attempted clearance will leave the player feeling red-faced but with sympathy from all.

However, over the years there have been a number of own goals that have literally left fans, players and managers all thinking “What were they thinking?”

From overhit back-passes, to unnecessary clearances, we’ve seen it all, so we’ve put together a list of the most insane own goals in the professional game.

Sammy Ndjock

In a pre-season friendly against Bournemouth, Minnesota United goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock could have been investigated for match-fixing, after his hilarious own goal from his own throw.

Everything seemed to be fine when Cameroonian goalkeeper collected the ball, but he totally misjudged his throw out to his defence and ending up sending the ball into his own net.

His attempts to stop the ball from rolling in the net just added to the comedy.

Franck Queudrue

Middlesbrough fans will remember Franck Queudrue and his wonderful left foot, but before he arrived in the north-west, he played for Lens in Ligue 1.

Maybe it was actually his incredible 40-yard own goal in 2001 that caught Boro’s eye. With the ball in absolutely no danger of going towards his team’s goal, Queudrue attempted a huge clearance up field but ended up kicking the ball the wrong way.

If it had been up the other end, it would have easily been considered for the FIFA Puskas award that year.

Tony Popovic

Just think Olivier Giroud’s Puskas winning flick in 2017 but in the wrong goal.

Standing on the edge of the six-yard box, Crystal Palace’s Tony Popovic attempted to clear Portsmouth’s Steve Stone’s ball into the box.

Being unbalanced meant Popovic hilariously send his clearance into the top corner.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

In 2017, Chelsea and Inter Milan met in Singapore for a pre-season friendly, games that usually lack excitement.

Thankfully, Inter midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia was on hand to provide the entertainment as he lobbed his own goalkeeper from 45-yards with a terribly misjudged backpass.

Michael Proctor

In 2003, Sunderland lost 3-1 at home to Charlton Athletic in the Premier League, but actually scored all four goals.

Three own goals in seven first half minutes gave the Black Cats a huge mountain to climb. It’s hard to choose which of the three was the worst as they all had huge comedic value.

But Michael Proctor gets our vote, as he managed to score twice in his own net.

Lee Dixon

Before David Seaman was lobbed by Brazil’s Ronaldinho in the 2002 World Cup, the England keeper had been on the receiving end of an even more embarrassing moment, thanks to his team mate Lee Dixon.

In a home game against Coventry in 1991, the right-back collected the ball and looked to safely send the ball back to his keeper, what he achieved was an overhit back-pass/lob to Seaman who was standing on the edge of his six yard box!

Djimi Traore

Poor Djimi Traore wasn’t exactly the most loved player at Liverpool during his seven year spell at the club, especially after his horrendous own goal against Burnley in the third round of the FA Cup in 2005.

It ended up being the only goal of the game and sent Liverpool out of the competition.

Potter’s prediction for Swansea’s season is promising for fans

According to the BBC, Swansea boss Graham Potter has said that his side are getting “better and better” after drawing against Wigan yesterday.

The Swans moved into the top six of the Championship with the result, although that could change come tonight, with other games to be played today.

With so many players returning from injury, and yet more to come, there is no denying that Potter is right.

With Tom Carroll and Leroy Fer returning in recent weeks from injury, as well as Bersant Celina and Jay Fulton returning from minor injuries, the club are only going to get stronger and stronger as the season goes on.

This is not forgetting the fact that star striker Wilfried Bony is still to return after missing half of last season. Once the team are fully fit, Swansea will be a team to be reckoned with as they pursue promotion back into the Premier League.

Although the result did not go the way that Potter may have liked, he will still be impressed with his side’s performance, as they registered 17 shots against the Lancashire club.

Of course, Potter admitted that the side can still improve, but that will happen naturally as players return and as the club get used to the manager. It can sometimes take a few months for a club to become accustomed to a new boss, and Swansea may be in that stage.

The Swans host joint bottom placed Ipswich on Saturday, and Potter will be expecting nothing other than a win from his side.

HYS: Should Aston Villa move to sign Chelsea’s Hudson-Odoi?

[ad_pod ]

It is all change for Aston Villa following the sacking of Steve Bruce last week, with the club confirming the appointment of Dean Smith as their new manager yesterday.

Former Villa defender John Terry has also returned to the club to become assistant manager and he could use his links with Chelsea to land an exciting forward on loan in January in the form of Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”304908″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Spurs’ Impressive Run & A Premier League First”]

The 17-year-old is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge and is expected to be on the move in January to earn regular first-team action, which could see him move to Villa Park to join fellow Blues loanee Tammy Abraham.

However, Villa do not necessarily need a new forward in January as they are the fourth-highest scorers in the Championship, only behind the top-three, and already have Jonathan Kodjia and Abraham impressing.

On top of this, Smith’s arrival could lead to the rejuvenation of Scott Hogan, who starred under the manager previously at Brentford, and a move for Hudson-Odoi would, therefore, be a waste.

Do you agree, Aston Villa fans? Should your side sign Hudson-Odoi? Let us know your thoughts in our poll below…

Liverpool’s Divock Origi should seek to reunite with ex-boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

According to a recent report from Aksam, Divock Origi could be set for a move away from Liverpool in the near future. The 23-year-old has been playing his football at Anfield since 2014 but hasn’t always been a first-choice at the Merseyside giants, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to German outfit Wolfsburg for the entirety of last season.

And reports suggest that the striker could be set to leave the club in the not-too-distant future, with Everton one side thought to be keen on the Belgium international, yet the man himself should seek to reunite with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic if he is to reignite his career.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, it was Northern Irishman Rodgers who brought the 23-year-old to Liverpool back in 2014, and although he was immediately loaned back to Lille for the 2014/15 season, he then returned and went on to net ten goals in all competitions in his first campaign at Anfield.

And Jurgen Klopp’s arrival in October 2015 didn’t hinder Origi’s opportunities too greatly at first, with the striker backing up his efforts in the 2015/16 season by bagging 11 in all competitions in the 2016/17 campaign to help the Reds return to the Champions League under the German.

Yet things have since taken a turn for the worst with Origi falling down the pecking order, hence the loan spell at Wolfsburg last term, while Daniel Sturridge’s resurgence in the early phase of this season suggests that the 23-year-old’s future is indeed away from Anfield.

And Celtic boss Rodgers should be interested in reuniting with the Belgian ace, what with his Bhoys team seeking further attacking reinforcements following the late summer departure of Moussa Dembele.

Dembele was the club’s talisman throughout his spell at Parkhead in netting 51 goals in just 94 games for the Bhoys, although he secured a move to French side Lyon at the end of the summer transfer window to leave Celtic short in the striking ranks.

And they have since struggled greatly for goals in netting just seven prior to their 6-0 thumping of St Johnstone just prior to the international break, thus suggesting that Rodgers needs to delve into the January window if he is to lead the club to an eighth straight league title – Origi could be that man.

And Origi himself should be tempted by the opportunity to work under Rodgers once again, what with the ex-Liverpool chief keen on giving young players a chance, while a move to Celtic may also give him the regular first team football that he simply isn’t getting at Liverpool, and may not get were he to move to Everton.

Thus, it’s a move which would be in the best interests of both parties – for Celtic in terms of boosting their flagging striking ranks, and for Origi in terms of seeking to reignite his flailing career.

Tottenham fans have had enough of Eric Dier

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur conceded late to draw 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Tottenham had turned things around to lead 2-1 on the night, but Luuk de Jong levelled the scores in the 87th minute after Hugo Lloris had been sent off in the 79th minute for a late challenge on Hirving Lozano.

Spurs have been left down in third position in Group B, and are five points behind second-placed Inter Milan, who lost at Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Eric Dier once again lined up in the middle of the park for Tottenham, and it would be fair to say that a number of the club’s fans were disappointed with the England international’s performance.

Dier has long divided opinion with the Tottenham supporters, with some feeling that the midfielder is excellent, whilst others doubt his ability as a professional footballer.

There were a number of the club’s fans who were upset with Dier on Wednesday night, and a selection of the reaction on social media can be seen below:

Lascelles’ call for unity will only fall on deaf ears in Newcastle’s current state

It has been a strange week for Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles to say the least.

The 24-year-old recently put pen to paper on a new six-year deal in a move that should have left him and supporters delighted. However, that has been far from the case.

The Breakdown

Accompanied with his new contract came words of praise for Newcastle supporters’ favourite man and the most popular person on Tyneside, Mike Ashley. Lascelles also took the time to call for more unity and less negativity from the St. James’ Park faithful (Sky Sports), something which has not gone down well — and understandably so.

It is not hard to see where Lascelles is coming from if he feels that the current atmosphere at the club is having an effect on the team, who currently sit 19th place in the Premier League table having failed to win a game so far this season.

However, before supporters can become more upbeat, the players on the pitch actually have to give them a reason to, while Ashley’s circus upstairs is hardly going to leave fans jumping for joy — especially when results have been so poor.

With that in mind, Lascelles should not be surprised with the current discontent among supporters.

From the pitch to the boardroom, things have simply not been good enough. And should Newcastle be on the receiving end of another poor result later today when they welcome Watford, then the former Nottingham Forest man should expect the animosity from fans to only increase.

Crystal Palace scouts sent to Porto to examine Hector Herrera but should focus on Spanish maestro Oliver Torres

[ad_pod ]

The Eagles landed in Portugal on Sunday to watch the Primeira Liga encounter at the Estadio do Dragao between FC Porto and Feirense, with a focus on the hosts’ midfielder Hector Herrera, per reports picked up in A Bola, via Sport Witness, but the Mexican is not the midfielder Selhurst Park should see.

What’s the story?

A Bola is a local newspaper in Porto and Sports Witness claim that the paper reported that scouts from the south London club were in attendance at the Portuguese league match on Sunday.

It is believed that the player Roy Hodgson had his men prioritising was 28-year-old Hector Herrera, who they had already cast judgment over when in Portugal for the Benfica and Tondela league fixtures as well as the Champions League tie with Galatasaray.

Their most recent trip, meanwhile, saw the central midfielder only feature for 26 minutes as a second-half substitute for Jesus Manuel Corona. But the journey would have been worthwhile to witness the display put on by Oliver Torres.

Why Torres instead of Herrera?

Herrera may have five years more experience on his side and regularly plays as an attacking or defensive midfield option along with a strict central spot, but the younger Porto midfielder offers someone who can pick a pass even better than his teammate.

Torres’ favoured style of play sees the 23-year-old prefer to lift balls over the top or into the channels, which is ideal when you have players like Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend ahead, rather than the Mexico international who often likes to play it short.

The 5ft 8in ace may have not yet earned a senior international call-up for Spain, but the Atletico Madrid product looks to be better suited to fitting into the Palace side who were getting back to their best against Arsenal at the weekend.

Should Palace change their focus from Herrera to Torres, they could potentially pick the Spaniard up for just £10.8m, as per his Transfermarkt valuation.

Aston Villa fans look to Abraham ahead of Derby clash

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa will be looking to make it back-to-back Championship wins when they travel to Derby County this weekend.

Villa sit 14th in the Championship table having gathered just 21 points from their 16 matches, and will take on a Derby side that sit fifth at this stage.

It will certainly be a good test of Villa’s credentials, and a win would aid suggestions that they are capable of pushing up the table and staying there.

The Villa fans are looking to Tammy Abraham to inspire the team this weekend.

The on-loan Chelsea forward has struck four times in 10 Championship appearances for Villa this season.

Abraham will be key to Villa’s chances of securing a positive result against Derby, and the Championship club’s fans are confident that the striker will contribute.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”327140″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Leicester Trump Man City Chelsea & Liverpool”]

The 21-year-old is without a goal in his last three games for Villa, but that run would be forgotten if the two-time England international returned to the scoresheet against Frank Lampard’s team.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Villa supporters can be seen below:

Everything You Need To Know About Football Manager 2019 Before Release

We’ve had the annual release of FIFA 19, but as October becomes November, there is only one game that is on the minds of football fans, Football Manager!

The PC game gives players the opportunity to test their skills as a manager, in arguably the most in depth game available.

With over 147 playable divisions and 2,500 clubs at your fingertips, the game is one of the most played games on the market and returns for it’s 2019 edition very soon!

As ever gamers can expect some changes from last year’s edition, so in preparation for it’s November release, we have dug deep and found all the new features players can expect.

New Logo

Fans of the game will notice straight away that the logo has been given a brand new look, with new colours and font.

Very much like FIFA 19 and the Fantasy Premier League, FM2019 boasts bright vibrant colours. Purple/violet is very much the ‘in’ colour it seems, as you’ll see in our gallery.

New Skin

Although the game’s UI is very similar from last year, gamers will notice one major change in the colour.

It is unclear as to why they have chosen purple or if you will have the option to change it, but the decision has been received with mixed reviews.

Squad Rotation

If you have a player that is on his way back from injury or is in desperate need of some game experience, you can now make him available for a youth game for one match only.

This means you don’t have to knock his confidence by moving him to the squad indefinitely, making him available to your matchday squad straight after.

Loan Management

When negotiating with a club about one of your player’s loan move, you can now instruct them of his preferred position as well as his preferred role.

This means you have more control over your player’s loan, meaning he will make progress in the areas you would like him to.

Star Performers

Colour-code star ratings help managers easily pick out the star performers from the match easily.

Players with a 7.00 rating or higher are highlighted in differing shades of green.

Multiplayer Ease

Now it is easier than ever to switch between managers with a dropdown box option available on every single page of the game.

No more needing to find the correct page!

More Informative Assistant

Alongside recommendations about pitch size, your assistant will also offer advice on what players to drop and will recommend a replacement too.

You can obviously ignore their advice, but it’s nice to have it as an option.

Induction System There will be a new manager ‘induction’ system which will behave like a tutorial for any newcomers to help them get used to the gameplay and new features. The system will be there for everyone, meaning FM regulars can also use it to brush up on the new features too.
