Comebacks are rarely successful in football, but for Jay Simpson and Leyton Orient, all parties will be hoping for success.

After being released by MLS side the Philadelphia Union at the end of last year, Simpson returned to the club where he enjoyed his most success at, Leyton Orient, and the striker is already proving to be a helpful option for the O’s in their quest for promotion back to the Football League.

Simpson has already scored once since re-joining the club in February, a 47th minute strike away to Barrow AFC in a 3-2 win, and heading into the business end of the season with Justin Edinburgh’s side still top of the National League table, the former Arsenal academy product is a quality option to have in any non-league team.

A player O’s fans know well, Simpson’s past term with Orient was one supporters both loved and scratched their heads over.

A player who scored 25 goals in one season and was named in the League Two Team of the Season as the east London side just missed out on a promotion play-off spot, injuries and rumours of a move to League One teams resulted in the striker only have one real productive season for Orient.

Following his most productive season in professional football, Simpson was only able to make 14 appearances the following campaign as back and thigh problems kept the striker out of most of the football, and with the club heading in a downward spiral, the forward made the move to MLS where injuries and lack of game time plagued his time in Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, Simpson is still a player Orient fans respect and hope does well with his return to the club. His performances so far have been good, and if he stays with the team if they are promoted back to the Football League, Edinburgh will have a quality striker for the division as well as free-scoring Macauley Bonne.

وعبر ديل بييرو في البداية عن رأيه في مستوى الفريق خلال المباريات الأخيرة خلال حواره مع شبكة “سكاي سبورتس”، وقال: “إذا نظرنا للمباراة ضد كروتوني، فمن المؤكد أنها تشير إلى العديد من الانتقادات والتعليقات السلبية حول أسلوب لعب يوفنتوس وعدم حصد النقاط الثلاث”.

وتابع: “يجب أن نفهم اللحظة التي يعيشون فيها، كانت هناك محادثات حول تغيير الدماء في الفريق وعدم وجود وقت كافٍ للتغيير وتناغم الفريق”.

وأضاف: “مع وجود لاعبين مميزين وأقوياء بدنيًا، يمكن أن يخرج يوفنتوس من حالة عدم الاستقرار الحالية”.

It’s safe to say that not all of West Brom’s ambitious January signings worked out well.

Indeed, Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero have had mixed results, but Stefan Johansen’s loan move isn’t going according to plan.

The centre-midfielder was surely signed to bring sparks to the Baggies’ pretty drab midfield but he’s been unable to do much on the creative front. Despite having assisted two goals and scored one in nine appearances, he’s mostly been quite lacklustre and looks a shell of the player who helped take Fulham to the Premier League. Johansen’s been unable to be the influential figure West Brom were hoping for, as someone more effective is needed to spark up their game next season.

The Baggies must be looking at options and Isaac Hayden’s comments to the Newcastle United official website suggesting he’d be keen on a move down south, they must act after previously being reported to hold an interest by John Percy of the Telegraph in January.

Despite his unhappiness off the field, the former Arsenal midfielder’s been a breakout star for the Magpies, putting in some bright performances against superior opposition. Clearly a technically gifted midfielder and one mobile enough to get all around the pitch, he’d be a breath of fresh air at the Hawthorns.

Not only has Hayden, who is valued at £6.3 million (by Transfermarkt), assisted three goals and scored one, but he’s also been pivotal in finding space for his attackers to diligently creating chances. He’s created four big goal-scoring chances while maintaining a 50% crossing accuracy and giving 16 accurate long-balls. Despite having to operate more defensively, Hayden’s recorded a 57% tackling success and made 32 interceptions (stats via Premier League) to win possession, urging his side forward.

Alongside Jake Livermore, the 24-year-old can revitalise a midfield that often looks so painfully stodgy.

He can be the complete package for West Brom’s midfield. In need of an energetic, box-to-box midfielder who can drive them forward and also win possession, the Baggies need to make a statement by outbidding Hayden’s suitors and securing his signature next season.

كومان خرج عقب المباراة، وحمل التحكيم سبب الخسارة، وخاصًة ركلة الجزاء المُحتسبة لـ سيرجيو راموس، إذ رأى إنها ليست صحيحة (طالع ماذا قال؟).

وقال زيدان في المؤتمر الصحفي عقب نهاية المباراة: “ركلة الجزاء؟ هناك حكم ذهب لمُشاهدة اللقطة واحتسب ركلة جزاء”.

وأكمل: “أنا لن أتحدث عن الحُكام أبدًا الذين يقومون بعملهم، وبغض النظر عن ركلة الجزاء، فنحن نستحق هذا الفوز، كان بإمكاننا إحراز المزيد من الأهداف، وعلينا أنّ نفكر في انتصارنا المُستحق”.

وأضاف: “نحن نعرف راموس، ليس فقط كلاعب، نحن نريده دائمًا في فريقنا، أنا سعيد للفريق، من المهم أنّ نرى الفريق يلعب كما فعل اليوم، لقد حققنا ثلاث نقاط هامة، والشيء الجيد أنّ سيرجيو لم يواجه أي مشاكل”.

وردًا على “هل تعتقد أنك وفريقك يجب عليكم أنّ تصمتوا؟”، أجاب: “نحن لسنا مع ذلك لسنا هُنا لنغلق أفواهنا، نحن قمنا بعملنا، ونؤمن بما نقوم به، عندما نكون قادرين على ذلك، وهذا ما فعلناه، علينا أنّ نستمتع بأنفسنا”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “لقد لعبنا اليوم كفريق واحد، وأنا فخور للغاية باللاعبين، لقد كنا كتلة مُتماسكة ضد برشلونة، ونجحنا في الفوز في النهاية”.

Bournemouth thought they sorted out their dilemma between the sticks when they signed Asmir Begovic from Chelsea back in the summer of 2017.

However, the 31-year-old has since fallen out of favour under Eddie Howe, and the Englishman now appears to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.

The Breakdown

According to Football Insider, Bournemouth recently sent scouts to go and watch Stoke City’s Jack Butland with Howe making the signing of a new shot-stopper a priority for the upcoming transfer window.

And looking at some of Begovic’s performances this season, especially of late, it is not hard to see why.

For as good as Begovic can be on his day, the former Chelsea man simply has too many errors in his game.

Bearing that in mind, ditching him for his ex-Stoke City team-mate could be a smart move.

Butland can also be guilty of making the odd mistake but, at 26, he still has plenty of time to eradicate those errors in contrast to the ageing Begovic.

While, overall, the England international remains a talented goalkeeper who has just been unlucky with injuries down the years.

He is a solid shot-stopper and a No.1 who has has the confidence to marshal his defence and take responsibility.

Had it not been for a serious ankle injury he suffered, the Birmingham City academy graduate could have so easily been England’s first-choice between the sticks ahead of Jordan Pickford.

All is not lost, however, and a move to a Premier League outfit like Bournemouth could just be thing to help him increase his standing in the England squad.

Once West Ham United’s prized asset, Marko Arnautovic now looks like a shell of his former self.

The Hammers signed him for £20.07 million (as per Transfermarkt).

After a January exit was blocked off by the Hammers, the controversial striker’s not been the same. Indeed, if recent games set an example, he’s quite clearly not really interested in performing well either.

Frankly, the Austrian looks to have lost that hunger which spurred him on to become a big fan-favourite at the London Stadium. He is almost like a pedestrian in games nowadays, showing little willingness to create or score goals anymore, the kind of petulant attitude to have appeared throughout his career. In fact, Arnautovic’s last goal came against Brighton after New Year’s Day, as he’s yet to net a single goal after his January transfer saga.

The 30-year-old’s adding little to West Ham’s game and isn’t moving around as he used to either. He isn’t getting behind defenders, running the extra mile or showing the urgency to score goals anymore. The Austrian’s performances as of late have been extremely lethargic, proving that all isn’t well between him and Manuel Pellegrini.

Recently against Leicester City, he only had one shot which skied past goal, while recording only 76% passing accuracy from 21 passes (stats via Fotmob). The Hammers shouldn’t allow him to hold them back, as Pellegrini should keep him permanently benched even if it threatens to destabilize his team’s shape.

This season is almost over and Arnautovic is no more the inspiring figure he used to be and it’s high time David Gold and David Sullivan look to replace him with a quality striker who’ll actually play for the badge.

According to the Guardian, Leicester are looking into the possibility of signing Italian striker Andre Petagna. Standing at 6 ft 2, he could give the Foxes a completely new dynamic in attack.

What’s the word?

Currently on loan at SPAL from Atalanta, Petagna has had a fantastic season in Serie A, contributing to 41% of his team’s goals.

He’s bagged 14 strikes in just 31 matches, putting him in joint seventh place in the race for the golden boot in Italy’s top flight.

He certainly knows where the back of the net is and after his exceptional campaign, he could now make a move to the Premier League, per the Guardian. The report suggests that Leicester may be weighing up a bid of €20m (£17.25m) after sending scouts to watch the forward in action. He’s currently rated at £9m according to Transfermarkt.

Any possible transfer for the 23-year-old could be out of Leicester’s hands, though. SPAL have an option to buy in Petagna’s loan contract if they don’t get relegated which means the Foxes may miss out on their man.

New plan B for the Foxes?

Whenever Jamie Vardy has been paired with a striker it’s been a largely inconsistent tactic. Shinji Okazaki worked well alongside the Englishman but the likes of Ahmed Musa, Islam Slimani and Kalechi Iheanacho have failed to set the world alight playing with him.

However, the addition of Petagna could be exactly what both Leicester and Vardy are looking for.

By pairing the two of them together should he join, it would give them an intriguing plan B. Most of Vardy’s work is done in the channels but given that Petagna is a powerful forward known to drop deep and string passes to runners in front of him, he offers the former England man a very interesting partnership.

Vardy has predominantly had to make deal with long balls in behind during his time at Leicester but by having a striker closer to him who is used to being more creative, it has the potential to be deadly.

At SPAL and Atalanta, Petagna drops between the lines on regular occasions and this could be of great benefit for Leicester’s star striker. Vardy’s runs would create space for Petagna in turn.

Securing a forward shouldn’t be Leicester’s priority this summer but it would certainly give them an interesting new option and change of system to boot.
