West Bromwich Albion may well be closing in on the signing of Karlan Grant before tomorrow’s deadline, but the door may have just opened to sign another mooted transfer target.

The Daily Mail have named the Baggies as potential suitors for AFC Bournemouth forward Joshua King along with Premier League rivals West Ham United.

However, it appears that Slaven Bilic’s former club is closing in on a different player – Brentford’s Said Benrahma.

According to the reliable ExWHUemployee, the Hammers will not move for any other player after securing the Algerian winger, who is currently in talks to join the club in a £30m deal.

This means Albion have a clear path to land King if they so wish.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to the 28-year-old in the past year, so it could well be quite the coup for the Midlands outfit.

King has proven to be a prolific goalscorer at this level having bagged at least six goals in each of the last five seasons, even last year during the Cherries’ relegation he contributed to a total of ten goals, via Transfermarkt.

It was only in the 2016/17 season where he netted a whopping 16 goals for the south coast club. He’d come with way more experience than Grant after playing 161 times in the top-flight.

Speaking to Match of the Day, via The Football Faithful, his former boss Eddie Howe said: “Josh is outstanding physically, technically and mentally – he has the complete package, a little bit of everything.”

It’s thought that Bournemouth would be willing to accept just £10m for the Norway international with the attacker in the final year of his contract, as per The Sun.

That low of a fee would certainly soften his reported £45k-per-week wages – landing him along with Grant could be the boost that’s needed at the Hawthorns.

Wolverhampton Wanderers appear to have dodged one massive bullet with one of their former academy stars.

When trying to make it as a professional footballer, application and work rate is very much as important as ability, if not more.

During the summer, the Midlanders cut ties with their Championship-winning striker Bright Enobakhare, ending a six-year relationship with the club.

The 22-year-old, who came through the system at Molineux, scored three goals in 49 appearances for the Wolf Pack but could never really find his feet – even less so with Raul Jimenez pulling up trees.

Three loan spells away were not enough to convince Nuno Santo of his credentials in the first-team, though that didn’t stop the Portuguese dubbing him a “special player” soon after his departure.

He added: “He has so much talent, but Bright was one of the players that we were not able to be with as much as we wanted to keep on improving him. “I think he can be a top player, but he made mistakes and sometimes things don’t work out.”

That hasn’t turned out to be the case whatsoever…

Where is Enobakhare now?

The Nigeria U23 international signed for Greek Superleague outfit AEK Athens on a free transfer in June but by October, he’s back looking for a new club.

After signing a three-year deal in Greece’s capital city, Enobakhare scored on his debut against Lamia after coming on as a substitute – within a week, his contract was ripped up.

According to Greek newspaper To Vima, a ‘serious of disciplinary offences’ led to this surprising outcome. It very much seems like his attitude and behaviour has caused AEK manager Massimo Carrera to severe ties after just 14 minutes of action.

When you’re having to sign for the third-ranked team in Greece, you know your football career is bordering on desperation, so to waste such a golden opportunity is shambolic.

No wonder Nuno gave up on him and cited “mistakes” as a key reason.

He clearly had the potential – Coventry City boss Mark Robins told CoventryLive (via the Express & Star), that Enobakhare possessed “unbelievable” quality with his feet, also claiming that “he’s Premier League quality.”

The ex-Wolves grad only has himself to blame now.

Having spent some time in the Premier League, Watford winger Ismaila Sarr will know a thing or two about trying to make a name for himself in English football.

So it’s perhaps hardly surprising that the Eagles tried to sign the Senegal international for £25m in the summer but to no avail. The Championship club want to recoup something close to the club-record £40m fee they paid to sign him from Rennes in 2019.

But with the winter transfer window a little over two months away, Steve Parish must return for the right winger in January, as this is a move that could work out for all parties. The Palace chairman will be well aware that there will be little chance of a compromise over a fee for the coveted attacking midfielder.

Sarr will remain at Watford for the foreseeable future despite multiple clubs including Premier League champions Liverpool and Manchester United registering their interest in the Senegalese in the summer transfer window. He spent two seasons with Rennes, scoring five times and supplying three assists in 24 league games in Ligue 1, before he really took it to another level the following season, via WhoScored.

Meanwhile, Wilfried Zaha has scored an impressive four goals in five league games this term, which is the same amount of goals he managed to score last season, via WhoScored. It’s an open secret that the Ivory Coast international is angling for a move away from Selhurst Park, as he wants to move to a club that can give him European football on a weekly basis, which is something the Eagles are unable to provide, for now at least. However, whether or not a club will be able to meet his colossal wages remains to be seen.

Sarr was once hailed as a “top player” who will “only get better” by Kevin Phillips and famously bagged a brace as Watford ran riot over Liverpool at Vicarage Road last term.

With Zaha turning 28 next month, the club should start to think about who could be ready to take the mantle from him, if and when such an opportunity arises. It’s fair to say that Eberechi Eze is still wet a little bit behind the ears, but Sarr has shown that he can mix it with the very best of the division. Returning for the Watford winger would give them someone who has a full season of playing in the Premier League under the belt, as well as Europa League experience as an added extra.

Sunderland midfielder Josh Scowen has offered Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson plenty of food for thought after producing a stellar display in Saturday’s 2-0 win away to Gillingham, having been benched for the midweek draw with Rochdale.

Scowen initially joined Sunderland in January from Queens Park Rangers, but could have walked away from the Stadium of Light this summer through a clause in his £8,100-per-week contract that became active when the League One season was curtailed early due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The clause allowed Scowen to move on if the Black Cats failed to secure promotion out of the third-tier and if the North East giants received an offer from a club competing in the Championship.

Scowen ultimately stayed yet sat out Sunderland’s season-opening draw with Bristol Rovers after sustaining a bruised ankle late in the Black Cats’ pre-season programme, but soon enjoyed a consistent run in the starting line-up until Tuesday’s draw with Rochdale.

Parkinson opted to drop the 28-year-old to the bench at the Crown Oil Arena and only called on him to feature for the final 16 minutes, though offered Scowen a recall at Gillingham and started the London-born midfielder.

The former QPR ace proved to Parkinson why he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet at Priestfield Stadium, with Scowen offering an excellent display and a persistent goal threat worthy of much more.

Scowen was guilty of blazing arguably his best chance of the first-team over the bar, before spurning a handful of good openings in the second period as Sunderland pushed for the opening goal.

But the £720,000-rated ace impressed nonetheless, as Chris Maguire and Lynden Gooch scored the goals to seal all three points, with SofaScore data showing Scowen as recording the game’s joint-most shots (four) with Gillingham’s Dominic Samuel.

Scowen was additionally successful with his only attempted dribble of the match, while completing 78% of his 32 passes for two key balls and three accurate crosses. He failed to direct a shot on target, though, with three efforts sailing wide and one blocked, including missing the one big chance to score.

Parkinson also witnessed Scowen contribute defensively with one clearance and one tackle, along with winning two of his five duels on route to registering 51 touches.

The Black Cats boss will find it very challenging to justify again benching Scowen when Sunderland host Ipswich Town on Tuesday night after the sensational efforts he produced at Gillingham.
