Celtic: Whelan comments on Klimala to NY

Patryk Klimala looks set to be closing in on a Celtic exit.

Interim manager John Kennedy admitted on Friday that the 22-year-old is days away from completing his move to MLS side New York Red Bulls.

The Hoops landed Klimala for £3.6m last January, but he has failed to make an impact in Glasgow, scoring just three times in 28 appearances.

Despite his struggles, it seems as if Celtic could be recouping all of their money on the Polish Under-21 international.

Pundit Noel Whelan, talking to Football Insider, had his say on Celtic potentially making their money back, labelling the Hoops as ‘very lucky’ to make back their initial outlay on the striker.

“For someone who’s hardly featured, to recoup the £3.5million that you paid? That’s either very good business by the board or stupidity from the people that are buying him.

“They could have got him for cheaper probably but Celtic will not complain. Surplus to requirements, no club wants to lose money on a player.

“So, all in all, I think they would probably think themselves very lucky in that position that recoups everything that they paid.”

Transfer Tavern take

We’re with Whelan in believing Celtic won’t complain about what they’ll be receiving for Klimala. His Transfermarkt value has halved during his 12 months at Celtic Park to £1.8m, but it seems as if the Hoops will be receiving double that amount from the MLS outfit.

You can understand why the 22-year-old’s valuation has dropped since his move to Parkhead. He has started just three league games during the current campaign and has failed to establish himself under either Neil Lennon or John Kennedy.

It hasn’t worked out for Klimala in Scotland, but financially it seems that Celtic won’t be making a loss on him.

Ex-Norwich star makes big Skipp claim

Former Norwich City star Jon Newsome has told The Transfer Tavern that the club will try to bring Tottenham Hotspur loanee Oliver Skipp back to the club next season.

The Canaries were the first Championship club this season to seal promotion to the Premier League, a feat that was confirmed at the weekend.

Skipp has been integral to that success, playing in all 42 of the club’s games in the second-tier this season.

A defensive midfielder, he has even chipped in with a goal and two assists as Norwich have swept all before them to confirm their return to the top-flight.

As it stands, Skipp is scheduled to return to Spurs at the end of the season but Newsome believes it is almost certain that Norwich will try to find a way to keep him at Carrow Road, so impressive has the 20-year-old been.

Speaking exclusively to TT, he said: “I would imagine as a management and recruitment team, they will be looking at him and saying, ‘well, we know he does a good job for us, we know he fits into our style of play, he’s good around the players, he’s happy here. We’ve got to try and secure him’.”

Skipp has experience of playing for Spurs, having made 23 senior appearances before his loan move.

Daniel Paulista prioriza defensivo e faz mistério sobre escalação do Sport

Man Utd must seal Cristiano Ronaldo return

Manchester United should mastermind a sensational return this summer to cope with the potential loss of striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan striker has reportedly made his intentions of leaving Old Trafford this summer clear.

However, in his place could arrive former forward Cristiano Ronaldo with reports from Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting that he is not fully content with current employers Juventus and could prefer a move back to either Spain or England.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/the-latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news-from-old-trafford-fofana-solskjaer-van-de-beek-wwodward” title=”The latest Man United transfer rumours and news from Old Trafford…”]

Should that be the case, the Red Devils need to be primed to re-sign the Portuguese sensation should Cavani depart.

It goes without saying that the 36-year-old is one of the best players in world football.

Throughout his club career, he has netted 670 goals in 888 appearances and his standards do not appear to be dropping any time soon.

Despite Juve having a supremely inconsistent season, Ronaldo has still managed to get on the scoresheet on 32 occasions, a figure that simply cannot be bettered by any player at Old Trafford this season.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has certainly drawn plenty of praise throughout his career for the monumental feats he has achieved.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who managed the Portuguese in his three years whilst at Real Madrid, hailed him as “incredible”.

Whilst a move back to Old Trafford has been mooted on a number of occasions in the past and never come to fruition, it actually makes more sense now more than ever with the Red Devils keen to once again challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Ronaldo, rated at £45m, would certainly go some way to achieving that should he arrive at Old Trafford and replace the potentially outgoing Cavani.

After all, he has never made his admiration for the club a secret, on numerous occasions expressing his “love” for the Red Devils so could well be tempted by a switch.

United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must then seal his sensational return this summer.

Barisic injury news is awful for Gerrard

Whilst Rangers were able to celebrate a superb 4-1 win in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Sunday, it was not all good news for Steven Gerrard’s side, after influential left-back Borna Barisic was forced off through injury.

The Croatian international went down in agony after playing a pass and was taken off the pitch in some pain, which suggests that unfortunately, he could miss the final two games of the season as the Light Blues look to finish the league campaign unbeaten.

Following the game, Gerrard had this to say about the former Osijek man:

“I don’t know, it’s a quad issue, there’s certainly some tightness there.

“He seems a little uncomfortable at the moment so we’ll scan that in the coming days. We’ve got 10 days until the next game, hopefully that helps.”

As Gerrard suggests, Rangers’ next game isn’t until Wednesday 12th May when they face Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium, although given the non-contact nature of Barisic’s injury and how much pain he seemed to be in, it would be a surprise to see him feature again this season.

The 28-year-old left-back, who joined for £2.2m in 2018, has been one of Gerrard’s star performers in the Premiership this season, contributing one goal and five assists in 30 league appearances, resulting in a superb 7.35 average rating.

This is enough to rank him as the fifth-best performer in Rangers’ side so far this season, which emphasises just how important he is for the Light Blues and it is undoubtedly a huge blow that he seemingly won’t be available for the final two fixtures.

It is awful timing for Gerrard too, as second-choice left-back Calvin Bassey is also missing the final two games of the season due to suspension, which leaves the 40-year-old manager painfully thin in that position, which was clear to see on Sunday when Joe Aribo moved there after Barisic was forced off.

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776”]

Former Hoops defender Mark Wilson was full of praise for Barisic last season, saying:

“He performs at good level week-in, week-out and has terrific quality in the final third of the park.”
The Croatia international has caused a lot of problems with his crosses down the left-hand side this season and you feel that in his absence, Rangers will lose a serious attacking threat, which will leave Gerrard worried that his side can’t finish the season as invincible.
And, in other news… Bye-bye Kamara: Wilson should seal Rangers swoop for “very good” 22 y/o
