While their batting has continued to look suspect, their bowling and fielding has been excellent and although Kenya beat them the last time they met – last October – they will come into the series as favourites.Despite local media reports to the contrary, vice-captain Thomas Odoyo, who was taken ill at the start of the year, has regained fitness and is set to play in Mombasa. The side is further boosted by the return of teenage batsman Seren Waters who joined the squad after taking time out to travel around Africa. But Mombasa Sports Club batsman Amit Bhudia, who newspapers claimed was returning to the side, has yet to shake off a shoulder injury.

Saka destroys Spurs in north London derby

Mikel Arteta’s young guns ran riot as Arsenal’s fine form in the Premier League continued with an emphatic win over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s north London derby.

Three quickfire goals in the first half practically sealed the Gunners’ fourth win in a row across all competitions.

Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring when he arrived unmarked to glance home Bukayo Saka’s cross and then he turned provider for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 21-year-old’s productive performance saw him named as Gary Neville’s ‘Man of the Match’ on Sky Sports commentary duty, although his fellow Hale End youth product deserved just as much praise.

Saka not only provided the assist for the opener but he also got his name on the scoresheet ten minutes before the break after the young England winger broke free from two Harry Kane tackles to slot past Hugo Lloris.

The £58.5m-rated dynamo was a constant thorn in Nuno Santo’s side and as such, he earned SofaScore’s highest rating of 8.1.

He did so much more than just score and assist, too.

Saka was among Arteta’s most influential players as he recorded 54 touches, the most of the Gunners’ front three, whilst he also contributed three key passes, two shots on target and 30 passes, via SofaScore.

The 20-year-old gem also got back to do his defensive duties, managing three tackles, which was only bettered by two players in the whole game – his defensive teammate Kieran Tierney and Spurs’ anchor, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. That’s on top of one interception and one clearance.

football.london waxed lyrical about Saka’s performance in their post-match ratings column.

‘The England international has faced questions over his quality in the final third this season but firmly answered them with this display. A great assist for Smith Rowe and although there was a touch of fortune with Harry Kane slipping for his goal it was still a good finish.’

All in all, Saka absolutely ran the show in Sunday’s north London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

AND in other news, Edu could secure Arsenal’s next Alexis Sanchez in swoop for £19.8m-rated “phenomenon”…

Queensland pull off great escape to take title

A stunning Queensland revival handed Victoria their third consecutive one-day final defeat

A stunning Queensland revival handed Victoria their third consecutive one-day final defeat as the visitors overcame their batting nerves in unbelievable style. Defending 8 for 187, an assignment which is never fun for the bowlers, the Bulls’ attack made the most of a two-paced pitch and knocked over the hosts for 175.The Bushrangers were sailing as soon as Shane Harwood picked up two wickets in his first spell and when the Bulls were 5 for 56 it seemed only one side could succeed. Chris Hartley’s careful and unbeaten 49 held Queensland together as they did well to last 50 overs. Victoria’s over-confident batsmen then struggled in their familiar conditions.Nathan Rimmington’s energetic medium-fast offerings captured 4 for 40 and the Man-of-the-Match award after he was the major player in the dramatic shift. The Bushrangers were cruising at 1 for 71 when Brad Hodge was lbw to Chris Swan, but they toppled to 7 for 131 as Rimmington emerged with three breakthroughs. Ben Laughlin also starred, finishing with 3 for 25, to steal the trophy from a seemingly unwinnable position.Adam Crosthwaite and Clint McKay (22) steered the Bushrangers in a 37-run stand for the eighth wicket, but they both left after the batting Powerplay was taken in the 46th over. With two wickets remaining, the hosts needed 20 off 26 balls and Crosthwaite (29) was in charge until he square drove to James Hopes at backward point. It gave Rimmington his fourth wicket and Queensland’s great escape was confirmed when Laughlin bowled Harwood with 12 balls to spare.Rimmington’s haul built on the strong display of Swan, who opened with 10 overs straight and picked up the dangerous duo of Chris Rogers and Hodge. Rob Quiney, who was 12th man for Australia’s Twenty20 against New Zealand, provided an excellent start with a muscular 52 from 58 balls that took the game even further from Queensland. He was so dominant early in the chase that when he was bowled off a Swan no-ball in the 11th over he had collected 40 of Victoria’s 43.Just as it seemed he would see out the chase Quiney bunted Rimmington to cover; Victoria were 3 for 84 and headed for embarrassment. David Hussey (8) was run-out three overs later when the victim of a poor call from Cameron White and Hopes’ crisp under-arm. The problems continued when Aaron Finch played on to Rimmington despite a desperate swipe to save the ball from rolling on to the stumps. The Bushrangers had lost 4 for 26 and were 90 short of victory with half their batsmen gone. After a steadying 33-run stand with Crosthwaite, the captain White made another bad mistake when he found deep square leg on 24 and walked off with his side a desperate 6 for 131. In the end Victoria did well to get so close as they chased their first one-day trophy since 1998-99.After the early carnage, Queensland were saved by a 67-run stand between Hartley and Glen Batticciotto (40). Hartley and Swan, who sped to 30 from 28 balls, added a valuable 54 for the ninth wicket in what turned out to be an invaluable stand.Hartley’s career-high score, which came from 102 deliveries, grew into the game-sealing innings against an excellent Victoria attack. Harwood captured 2 for 23 from 8.4 overs before his ankle slipped awkwardly on the pitch, while Damien Wright backed him up with 2 for 31. McKay was also impressive with 1 for 33 before he left the field with a side strain after 9.2 overs. The bowlers were quickly let down by the batsmenAfter going for eight in the opening over of the match, Harwood picked up Ryan Broad lbw for 4 in his second and bowled Hopes (10) in his third. The Bulls were intimidated by Harwood’s opening spell of 2 for 9 off five and the feelings of insecurity did not disappear until their bowlers got the ball.Symonds arrived to engage in a series of verbals with Harwood and was troubled while waiting 12 balls for his first run. Scoring was tough for most of the Queenslanders, with Batticciotto taking 13 deliveries to get off the mark and Hartley needing 15. On 23, Symonds drove Wright to Hodge at mid-on and Queensland were thinking a score of 100 would be satisfying.Lee Carseldine was run-out when Symonds, who wanted a single from the last ball to avoid more roughing up from Harwood in the next over, called from the non-striker’s end. Quiney’s direct hit left Queensland at 3 for 24 after 10 overs and four balls later Nathan Reardon edged Wright to White at first slip. Things had improved for the Bulls by the end of the innings, and the moods lifted dramatically when they bowled.

Loads of Everton fans have been left buzzing as some comments emerged from Andros Townsend before their game away at Manchester United on Saturday.

Writing for the official website of the Goodison Park faithful, the former Crystal Palace winger has now revealed his goals for the rest of the season, and insists that he can still improve on his great start to life at the Merseyside club so far: “Seven games don’t make a successful signing. I want double figures for both goals and assists this season – and I have a manager who is never satisfied.”

Townsend is well on his way to achieving his goal this campaign, with four goals and three assists in eight games in total over all competitions so far (Transfermarkt), and his attitude has certainly not gone unnoticed by the Toffees supporters, as he looks to add to his tally in the Premier League against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Turner defends Twenty20 selection

Glenn Turner has defended the selection of the Twenty20 squad against India, saying players were picked based on the current injury situation and not on a rotation policy

Glenn Turner, New Zealand’s chairman of selectors, has defended the selection of the Twenty20 squad against India, saying players were picked based on the current injury situation and not due to a rotation policy. Turner was reacting after seasoned internationals like Scott Styris and James Franklin were left out in favour of relatively inexperienced players.”It is too easy to say that when a player does well at provincial level, it doesn’t count – we think that it does,” Turner told the . “Also we are having quite a few injuries and we have the Twenty20 World Cup coming up in June and we only have these two matches.”It is not a rotation policy, it is more about taking advantage of an injury situation to give someone else an opportunity. Quite often those last two positions you choose could go any number of ways.”The argument is your core players win you games and those two final selections you make are less likely to. Therefore, by swapping them around a bit you learn more about different individuals.”Franklin made a comeback during the recent home series against West Indies after a long injury lay-off but didn’t make an immediate impact. He played the one-off Twenty20 in Australia, bowled one over and scored only three runs. Ewen Thompson, who made his international debut in the Twenty20 against West Indies in Hamilton in December, has been picked ahead of him.”ET [Thompson] had one go and made a bit of a go of it,” Turner said. “Their [India’s] openers like the ball coming on. We left him out previously because he lost form but he’s been bowling better recently and he can also bat a bit towards the end.”With allrounder Jacob Oram back in the squad and batsman Neil Broom trying to establish himself, Turner added that there was no scope for Franklin to play as a specialist batsman in the middle order.Turner said Styris, who missed the ODIs in Australia due to injury, will be back in the frame for the one-dayers because he is better suited to the longer format.”He (Styris) starts off slowly and is committed to getting in and scoring big, but he hasn’t really yet shown out,” Turner said. “We are talking about Twenty20. He has a better show for the 50-over stuff.”The first of the two Twenty20 internationals is on Wednesday in Christchurch.
