Everton have had a season of struggles, ranging from an injury crisis that has seen them lose multiple key players over the course of the season to finding themselves struggling to maintain safety, with the side sat in 16th position.
And now new manager Frank Lampard could be set for his first mistake in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
What’s the word?
According to Portuguese news outlet, Torcedores, Yerry Mina has been offered to Flamengo by his agent Giuliano Bertolucci.
The report suggests that the Everton defender, who was once hailed a “monster” by ex-Toffees left-back Michael Ball, is interested in listening to offers that Flamengo may have for him, with the possibility of a loan deal until the end of his contract in June 2023 with the Merseyside club.
The signing of Mina is allegedly a priority for the Brazilian club, as they search Europe for reinforcements to bolster their defence.
Frank set for a howler
Lampard will be hoping he can change the trajectory of Everton’s season in the remaining months, something he has shown promise in with a fantastic team performance displayed in the side’s first win in six league games against Leeds United last weekend.
The Toffees have been weakened throughout the season by not only injury but also due to important players leaving, with both James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne being shown the door during Rafa Benitez’s failed tenure at the club, so the newly-appointed boss must do everything he can to not only keep his player fit but also retain their commitment to his challenging project.
When you look at what Mina offers the side in terms of impact in his position, it would be an absolute howler to let him go.
In his ten appearances this season the defender has an average of 89% successful pass completion in his own half, offers 2.7 clearances on average per game and has won the majority of both his ground (65%) and aerial (67%) duels this season, according to SofaScore.
Only Michael Keane is managing a better average rating for Lampard’s current central defensive options, too.
With that being said, keeping the £18m-rated Colombia international should be a top priority this summer amid speculation that he might leave the club, and Lampard could potentially achieve this by ensuring that the 27-year-old defender understands that he is a key member of the side with a future in the Premier League.

Leeds United have now sounded out a move for Celta Vigo left-back Javi Galan.
The Lowdown: Orta and Marsch talks
Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch have held talks this week to look at summer targets.

Galan, nicknamed as ‘Rooney’ for his stature, was on the club’s radar last year, and it seems as if Leeds are still keen on the full-back who has registered an impressive 18 assists during his career so far.
The Latest: Galan update
Sports Witness relayed a story from Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday regarding Galan and Leeds.
They claimed that the Whites have sounded out the 27-year-old over a move to Elland Road, however, Celta Vigo consider him as ‘untransferable’ after impressing since joining from Huesca.
The Verdict: Ship sailed?
It looks as if Leeds may have to pay over the odds for Galan this time around after his fine start to life with Celta Vigo, so it could be worth looking elsewhere for full-back reinforcements.
Galan can play as a left-midfielder and left-winger as well as his primary left-back position, so it’s easy to see why Orta and co are keen to get him flying down the flank at Elland Road.
However, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla also interested, it seems as if the ship may have sailed when it comes to Galan moving to Yorkshire.

Pakistan located the cornered-tiger spirit that has long been their tactic of last resort, and conjured up a batting display that started out with dedication and erupted into delight

This was the day of defiance that this series so desperately needed. Against all expectations – not least those of England’s bowlers who had envisaged two days of R & R – Pakistan located the cornered-tiger spirit that has long been their tactic of last resort, and conjured up a batting display that started out with dedication and erupted into delight. Under the clearest skies of the contest, and with little fear of lateral movement, Pakistan overcame their suspicions about a two-paced surface and were able to remember the simple pleasures of putting bat to ball.By the close Pakistan’s lead was a slender 112, but even that was 40 runs more than they themselves had mustered in their first innings – not to mention 24 runs better than the total for which they had skittled Australia at Headingley. “Cricket is such a game that you are never out of it until it ends,” said Pakistan’s captain, Salman Butt. “This is a total that teams can get out to, and with the kind of bowling we have – and the wicket has taken spin as well – we surely have a chance.”There are the inevitable precedents for the sort of capitulation that Butt is now envisaging – at Sydney in 1993-94, Fanie de Villiers produced the spell of his life as Australia crumbled to 111 all out, chasing 117, while at Edgbaston in 1981, Ian Botham’s summer of miracles continued with his 5 for 1 in 28 balls as the Aussies once again tripped up in sight of a straightforward victory. With Umar Gul injured, pride is probably as much as Pakistan can hope to salvage in this particular contest, but with them you never know. With a sniff of incentive to fire up their fielders, and some all-important cloud cover to get Amir and Asif in the groove, they’ve certainly got the guns to give England a real fright. It might seem strange, then, to suggest that England needed a day like this as well. They might not appreciate the reminder right this minute, but all summer long, a suspicion has lingered that they’ve simply had it too good. When, for instance, Azhar Ali punched James Anderson through mid-off for 2, it was the first time in four innings Pakistan had reached 50 with fewer than six wickets down. On the one hand such a statistic underlines the sheer excellence of England’s efforts with the ball; on the other, it begs numerous questions about the application of Pakistan’s batsmen, as well as England’s troubling lack of incisiveness when at last those clouds deigned to shift.”The wicket is as dead as a dormouse,” said England’s spinner, Graeme Swann, whose career-best figures of 6 for 60 did at least suggest that, like one of those chalet-shaped barometers featuring a husband and wife on a pivot, England’s attack does contain options for rain and shine alike. But Swann can only bowl from one end at a time, and once his initial threat had been negated, his colleagues found no alternative means of getting past Pakistan’s ever-broadening bats. As Stuart Broad’s latest and most irksome case of white-line fever demonstrated, they did not enjoy the hard yakka one little bit.”Pakistan made us work really hard, but I don’t think it is any surprise that that was going to happen at some stage,” said Swann. “We have bowled them out cheaply three times in the series so far, so it’s just the way the innings went. It led to a few frustrations because of the fact we got through the top order and it was the guys lower down who made us work, but Pakistan deserve the plaudits rather than us getting the downers.”That may indeed be the case, for Zulqarnain Haider’s first substantial Test innings was a treat to behold. He reacted to his incredible king-pair reprieve like a man who believed that destiny had just spoken, and he found in Amir and Saeed Ajmal a superbly contrasting pair of allies – one who wormed his way under England’s skin with his limp-batted refusal to budge, and another whose array of leg-side biffs carried the fight to another level, once the threat of an innings defeat had been averted and the onus shifted to the creation of a defendable lead. But in dealing with both challenges, England found themselves distinctly lacking in ideas. “I took a perverse pleasure in watching Ajmal get his fifty,” said Swann. “It was a knock that I like to play with fielders spread all over the place and annoying the bowlers, but we lost our way a little bit when he was batting. We probably went to three men out, bowling bouncers, a little bit early. But I thought they stuck at it very well – it was so slow, so turgid for the seamers.”It has been a year of strange and unsettling contrasts for England. In the space of five days they rolled Pakistan for consecutive totals of 80 and 72, having claimed 20 wickets in the space of two sessions in their previous Test outing, against Bangladesh at Old Trafford in June. Prior that, however, Tamim Iqbal had slammed 266 runs from 276 balls in three of the most carefree onslaughts imaginable, and if you rewind even further, to the first Test in Chittagong, it was Swann himself who lost his rag through frustration, as Junaid Siddique’s century kept England waiting for their hardest-earned win of the year.Australia’s batsmen will have watched today’s events with interest. Notes will have been taken – much like the ones that John Buchanan is bringing in the other direction in his newly-announced capacity as an ECB consultant – and a tendency towards toothlessness will have been acknowledged, regardless of the rip that Swann applied to his third delivery of the match, an absolute snorter that pitched outside Imran Farhat’s leg stump and clipped the top of off.Magic balls are one thing, but a lack of mystery is another – and there’s something a touch transparent about England’s attack when the heavens conspire against them. Ajmal Shahzad, and his ability to reverse-swing the old ball at pace, would have been an asset in the circumstances, but in the absence of a five-man attack, his is a luxury that is unlikely to be countenanced.Right at this moment, clear skies conjure up images of just one contest – the Ashes. And if England’s sights are set on world domination, as Andrew Strauss declared they were before this Test, then it is no use for them to be big cats at home, but pussycats abroad – which is the very same accusation that was levelled at the current No.1 Test team, India, throughout the 1990s. Up until now, the attack has been spoiled by swing-friendly conditions, and while the advantage they have taken has been thrilling to behold, it’s not exactly prepared them for the challenges that lie ahead.”It’s not a bad thing that we’ve had to work to get ourselves into this position,” admitted Swann. “After getting three or four early wickets you do hope you will be able to go through, but they applied themselves well and put on two big partnerships, dead-batting the ball on a slow wicket.”

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Valentin Castellanos to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.
What’s the talk?
That’s according to a report by Leeds Live, who state that, following reports back in February suggesting that Victor Orta is willing to pay around €12m (£10m) in order to seal the signing of the New York City FC centre-forward, the Whites could likely get a deal for Castellanos done this summer.
[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-marsch-raphinha-dest-philhay” title=”Read the latest Leeds news!”]
The report goes on to profile the 23-year-old as an “all-round number nine in the shape of [Patrick] Bamford,” as well as suggesting that the Argentina U23 international’s signing would “fit the profile needed” for Leeds.
Imagine him & Gelhardt
Considering just how exciting a talent Castellanos is, the prospect of the centre-forward linking up with Leeds’ own attacking prodigy, Joe Gelhardt, will certainly be a mouthwatering one for the Elland Road faithful.
Indeed, over his 35 MLS appearances last season, the £10.8m-rated striker was in devastating form for NYCFC, scoring 22 goals, registering eight assists and creating eight big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 4.1 shots – the most of any player in the division – and making 1.1 key passes per game.
These returns saw the 23-year-old who Ronnie Delia claimed “does everything right all the time” average a breathtaking SofaScore match rating of 7.28, ranking the Argentine as the 21st-best player in the MLS last term.
As such, while the 28-year-old Bamford is still undoubtedly Leeds’ first choice up top, with Castellanos being five years the England international’s junior, the NYCFC hitman could well prove to become the Whites’ next leader of their attacking line.
And, alongside 19-year-old Gelhardt – who journalist Beren Cross claimed “the hype around is just incredible” – in Jesse Marsch’s two-man attack, should Orta manage to get a deal over the line for Castellanos this summer, the sporting director could well have secured Leeds’ front two for the foreseeable future.

Somerset crashed to only their second Clydesdale Bank 40 defeat of the season despite a century from England one-day wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter against Worcestershire at New Road
30-Aug-2010 ScorecardSomerset crashed to only their second Clydesdale Bank 40 defeat of the season despite a century from England one-day wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter against Worcestershire at New Road.Kieswetter blasted his sixth one-day century from just 97 balls which threatened to take Somerset to an unlikely win, but Worcestershire held their nerve to secure a 49-run victory, their third in a row in the competition since Daryl Mitchell took over as their captain three weeks ago.Somerset’s defeat was not too costly as they had already secured their place in the semi-finals, but they will now need to beat Glamorgan in their final group match at Taunton on Saturday to ensure they have a home tie.Shakib Al Hasan’s aggressive 91 from just 68 balls gave Worcestershire a competitive total of 255 for nine on a used pitch but the Bangladeshi allrounder was unable to bowl or field having suffered a hip injury late in his innings. That did not look like being a handicap to Worcestershire as seamers Alan Richardson and Jack Shantry took two wickets apiece to reduce the visitors to 41 for 5.But Kieswetter led a bold fightback with support from Peter Trego in a sixth-wicket stand of 109 in 21 overs. Kieswetter dominated, straight driving three sixes and placing the ball cleverly in his first century since a one-day international against Bangladesh in Chittagong in February. With England’s squad for the forthcoming Twenty20 and one-day internationals against Pakistan set to be announced, Kieswetter’s commanding century could not have been better timed but it was not enough to save Somerset from defeat.Trego holed out to long off trying to force the pace and Kieswetter was held shortly after he completed his century by Richardson running back from mid-off.Worcestershire had sufficient bowlers to cope without Shakib in the field but they were indebted to him for sustaining an innings that started to sag after the departure of Moeen Ali.Moeen raced to a 54-ball half-century but was bowled off stump driving at Zander de Bruyn when well set. But Shakib played some audacious strokes, including a scooped four over Kieswetter off Ben Phillips, before he was forced to call for a runner after he had on-field treatment for his injury.Shakib was bowled giving himself room against Alfonso Thomas when a century was in sight. Thomas finished with four for 49 but was eclipsed by Shantry, who had dangerman Marcus Trescothick and De Bruyn taken by teenage wicketkeeper Ben Cox in his first spell. Phillips clipped Shantry to midwicket when he returned as Somerset drifted to 206 for 9.
