Five Kenyan cricketers have turned down contracts offered by their board on grounds of insufficient compensation. Cricket Kenya had offered new national contracts to 13 cricketers; seven have accepted them. They are: captain Collins Obuya, Seren Waters, Hiren Varaiya, Rakep Patel, Runesh Gudka, Lucas Ouloch and Ragheb Aga. Alex Obanda, Shem Ngoche, James Ngoche, Nehemiah Odhiambo and Elijah Otieno turned down the contracts and the board promptly withdrew them.Tanmay Mishra, the Mumbai-born Kenya batsman, will be available for national duty, though he’s chosen to play domestic cricket in India this season. Kenya Cricket’s chief executive Tom Sears said: “We are very pleased with the group of players who have committed to Cricket Kenya but obviously disappointed that some players chose not to sign their new contracts.”Every player received an offer amounting to a basic increase to their monthly retainer of at least 10% and the opportunity to improve that figure significantly through consistent high performance. They were also offered guaranteed match fees for domestic cricket for the first time which would significantly increase their earnings. The fact that they have declined these improved offers calls into question some of the advice they have been receiving but that is a matter for the players themselves.”Having met with all the players on several occasions and heard what they and their advisors have said, we made repeated offers during the last month to meet with the players individually to discuss their contract offers but some declined to do that, either through their own choice or by instruction from their advisors – if we are not told what the players’ issues are it is impossible for us to deal with them. Cricket Kenya can only wait for so long for players to commit and the time has come for us to move on and look at other players who are seeking the opportunity to show what they can do at international level.”Several senior cricketers, including World Cup captain Jimmy Kamande and Thomas Odoyo, were not offered contracts this year in a move to look to the future. The contracts run for 12 months and offer improved salaries and match fees. It remains to be seen if the refusal from the five cricketers puts their availability in doubt. Kenya take on UAE in two limited-overs games next week, followed by a four-day Intercontinental Cup fixture in Nairobi.

ووفقًا لـ 90Min، فإن أندية بي إس في أيندهوفن وبورنموث (ناديه السابق)، وأستون فيلا وساوثامبتون ونوتنجهام فورست وليستر سيتي كانت أيضًا من المنافسين الأقوياء.

Northamptonshire are poised to take another big stride towards promotion afterbowling Derbyshire to the brink of defeat on the third day of the CountyChampionship Division Two match at Chesterfield.The home side were 289 for 8 for at the close, chasing an improbable targetof 494, after James Middlebrook scored his third championship century of theseason in Northamptonshire’s 416 for 9 declared.David Lucas picked up three wickets and skipper Andrew Hall and Middlebrookeach took two, but although the visitors claimed an extra half hour, they couldnot finish the home side off. Northamptonshire had resumed the third day on 285 for 6, already a commanding 362 runs in front, and by lunch had added another 101 for the loss of Hall.Derbyshire’s only hope was to knock over the last four wickets quickly, butdespite a good spell with the new ball, it was 19 overs before they broke theHall and Middlebrook stand. Hall was clearly determined to bat Derbyshire out of the game and had faced 150 balls for his 44 when he edged a drive and was well caught by Martin Guptill lowto his left at second slip.He had added 102 in 39 overs with Middlebrook and although Northamptonshirewere now 404 runs in front, there was no sign of a declaration. Middlebrook straight drove Greg Smith for six and Chaminda Vaas played some elegant strokes until he went for a big hit at Chesney Hughes and was bowled for 37.Hall waited until Middlebrook cut Smith for the boundary which took him to hishundred before setting Derbyshire the task of scoring the highest fourth-inningstotal in the county’s history.At least they could draw some inspiration from last year, when they made 365against Surrey at Queen’s Park, and Martin Guptill and Chesney Hughes beganconfidently by scoring 52 from the first 10 overs.Hughes was clearly unhappy to be given out caught behind off Hall for 20 andSmith (six) failed again when Lucas found some inswing to knock out his offstump. وواصل: “كان روبرتسون على ما يرام في الجهة اليسرى لأننا ساعدناه ولكن على الجانب الآخر لم يحصل ترينت على الدعم”.

 واستكمل: “في الوقت المناسب قد نرى الإيجابيات لكننا أردنا الوصول إلى الجولة التالية، تهانينا لبرايتون”.

واختتم كلوب تصريحاته قائلًا: “لقد كان أفضل مما كان عليه قبل أسبوعين، لكن يمكننا القيام بعمل أفضل بكثير”.

The team that emerges triumphant may well be the one that makes the fewest mistakes on the remaining days.As it is, after day one, both sides will feel they squandered chances to establish a platform in this match. Worcestershire dropped some chances and, through their support bowlers, conceded soft runs, while a succession of Sussex batsmen surrendered their wickets in oddly careless fashion.Both teams may also feel, however, that they got away with their mistakes. With neither side in the mood to take advantage of the other’s errors, honours finished just about even. Perhaps Sussex, 11 short of claiming a third batting bonus point, may feel they just have their noses in front.That’s not to say there was not some fine cricket, however. Alan Richardson was as immaculate as ever and to say Kemar Roach’s figures do him a disservice is an understatement. The Bajan barely conceded a run in front of the wicket all day and, with better fortune and better fielders, he could have taken five for 30. Offspinner Moeen Ali bowled tidily, too, though Worcestershire may be somewhat alarmed at the amount of turn he gained to bowl Will Adkin. Anything Moeen can do, Monty Panesar can do quicker.Sussex, too, had good moments. While Joe Gatting and Murray Goodwin were adding 134 runs in 37 overs for the third wicket, it seemed the visitors would establish a dominant total. Goodwin, in particular, produced some sparkling straight drives and resounding cuts, while Gatting was impressive square of the wicket, but lived dangerously outside off stump. Later Ben Brown produced the most solid batting of the day in registering an impressive half-century.More than anything, however, this was a day of missed opportunity. Had Daryl Mitchell, for example, not dived in front of Vikram Solanki at first slip and put down a chance offered by Gatting on just eight and had Alexei Kervezee, at point, not put down a straightforward chance offered by Goodwin when he had 44, Worcestershire would have felt far more satisfied. Needless to say, Roach was the unfortunate bowler on both occasions.But Sussex were equally profligate. Not only did Goodwin chase a cut and edge to slip – where Solanki parried a tough chance high into the air and then dived to catch it – but Gatting steered one he could have left to the keeper before both Matt Prior and Michael Yardy guided the ball to cover as if offering catching practise. It meant Sussex’s entire middle-order had self-destructed for the addition of just 53 runs in 15 overs.Brown, however, stopped the rot. Preferred to Andy Hodd in the side – Hodd has a year remaining on his contract but may, understandably, feel he’s a better than second XI cricket – Brown responded with just the innings his side required. Where his colleagues chased balls, he was compact; where they hit in the air, he blocked. And while they watch on from the pavilion in the morning, he’ll resume his unbeaten innings.Earlier Worcestershire claimed two early wickets as Sussex chose to bat in conditions providing the bowlers some assistance. Ed Joyce fell when he moved too far across and was bowled behind his legs, before Chris Nash’s expansive drive was defeated by a fine delivery that swung in sharply to leave the visitors on 25 for 2. Later Richardson returned with the new ball to have Amjad Khan caught down the leg side off the glove, while Adkin, stuck on the crease when he should have been forward, lost his off bail to one from Moeen than pitched on middle and spun sharply.Richardson’s wickets took him clear at the top of the Division One table of leading wicket-takers (he has 64), while it’s also worth noting that he has bowled more overs (583.2) than any seamer in the division. For a 36-year-old, that is a fantastic effort.

وكتب شيكابالا من خلال حسابه الشخصي عبر موقع التواصل الاجتماعي “فيس بوك”: “كان لا بد من شكر البروفيسور اليوم بشكل شخصي وليس عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، لأن قيمته عند الجميع كبيرة جدًا”.

وتابع شيكابالا: “بصفتي قائد الزمالك وقبل ذلك أحد جماهير النادي؛ أتوجه بالشكر للبروفيسور فيريرا على كل ما فعله من أجل الفريق ومن أجل الكيان”.

وأكمل قائد الزمالك: “الجميع يعلم ما قام به الموسم الماضي رغم الظروف السيئة التي كانت تلاحق الزمالك وأبرزها إيقاف القيد؛ إلا أنه قام بعمل أسطوري وانتشل الفريق من موسم بدا للبعض أنه صفري بدون بطولات؛ وحققنا ثنائية الدوري والكأس كما فعلها مسبقًا”.

وواصل شيكابالا: “لذلك يجب أن أتوجه له بالشكر والتقدير على ما فعله، سواء في الموسم الحالي أو السابق ؛ سيظل البروفيسور أسطورة لنا وللجماهير وستظل كذلك رغم أنف من يحاول التقليل منك”.

وختم شيكابالا حديثه: “للتوضيح، جاء استبعادي من قائمة المباراة الأخيرة بناءً على وعكة صحية تعرضت لها؛ وجاء ذلك بعد تشخيص طبيب الفريق وبمعرفة المدير الفني فيريرا وليس كما أشُيع أنه تم استبعادي لأسباب فنية، اسم وتاريخ نادي الزمالك يستحق من الجميع الأفضل”.
