Liverpool: Club have let Harry Wilson down

With Harry Wilson impressing for Frank Lampard’s Derby County this season, many expected the Welsh international to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans for next year, but it appears the winger has other ideas.

16 goals and four assists in the Championship at the age of 22 is enough for many Premier League teams to consider promoting said player into the first-team, but it appears that Wilson is taking matters into his own hands, and according to the Daily Star, the youngster is looking for a move away from Anfield this summer.

There is no question that Wilson could easily slot into any team outside the top-six in the English top-flight, and although it is understandable why the Welsh international is taking the decision to leave Merseyside with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane way ahead of him in the pecking order, Liverpool should still feel bad about letting the winger down.

Aside from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Wilson is one of the most talented players to break through at Liverpool some time, and for the club to cash on him now after the best season of his career is disrespectful to the attacker, who many fans expected to be part of the first-team next season.

It paints a bad message for the club if one of their hottest prospects is willing to leave on his own terms because of a lack of first-team opportunities, and it paints a dark image for current prospects in the youth academy that despite doing incredible out on loan, you could still find yourself set for the chop.

Wilson could have become a Liverpool great, but the machine that is modern football wouldn’t allow such a storyline to be written.

Liverpool fans, are the club wrong to sell Wilson this summer? Let us know!

Pundit View: Van Bronckhorst tips Defoe and Davis to be crucial for Rangers next season

[ad_pod ]

Former Rangers midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst thinks big name players like Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe will be crucial to Steven Gerrard’s starting eleven next season, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

What’s he said?

The Rangers squad is currently enjoying a close-season break ahead of returning to training later this month in preparation for July’s European qualifiers, but fans and pundits are already looking ahead to the domestic challenges next term and wondering whether Gerrard’s team can truly compete with Celtic.

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

Former Ibrox favourite van Bronckhorst believes they can and reckons relying on veterans like Davis and Defoe will go a long way to finding consistency in results.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

Every side needs a blend, Rangers will have plenty of experience in Defoe and Davis.

They have had excellent careers and are excellent professionals. But they will want to show they have plenty more left to offer — and that’s why they will be crucial to any success Rangers are to have in the new season.

Defoe still has the ability to score many goals and link play in the final third. Davis is very calm and stamps his authority in the middle of the park.

Steven Gerrard will be counting on them to push all the way for the title. For a couple of years they were struggling to get close to the level of Celtic, but that is now not the case. They now have to take the positives of the two victories against Celtic last season, and bring that mentality and skill over the course of a full campaign.

Will they be Rangers’ main men?

The initial signs on Davis and Defoe after their January arrival were not good. Looking laboured and unfit, they struggled to make an impact in their early appearances.

Towards the end of the season though both showed their class in a run of games that was arguably the team’s best throughout the entire campaign.

Defoe slotted in seamlessly for the suspended Alfredo Morelos while Davis started to look like his old, trophy-winning self in the heart of Gerrard’s midfield.

Both have a real shot of playing over 30 games next season if they can maintain that form, and having that kind of top level experience running through the team could indeed be crucial for Gerrard.

Can the Rangers boss find the right blend of youth to complement them?

Newcastle fans put faith in Rafa Benitez despite Jose Mourinho links

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle United fans are ready to back Rafa Benitez as the club’s manager, despite links with former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

The Mirror reported on Saturday that Mourinho was interested in having discussions with potential new Magpies owner Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan.

Can Newcastle make the top 6 next season? The Magpie Channel name the one player who could make that happen in the video below…

The paper reckon that the Portuguese football legend has told friends the job at St James’ Park is one he would consider seriously having always had a soft spot for the club.

It all sounds rather fanciful but it’s certainly an interesting sub-plot to a potential takeover from Mike Ashley.

Fans of the club aren’t exactly quick to rush into a relationship with Mourinho, with the amount of respect Benitez has built up over the last few seasons clearly worth more in the hearts and minds of Magpies supporters.

If a new mega-rich era is on the horizon though, should the club pursue the former Real Madrid manager?

Rangers fans are pleased with decision to send Glenn Middleton on loan

[ad_pod ]

Rangers fans are pleased to hear winger Glenn Middleton could be heading out on loan next season.

The Scottish Sun have reported this week that he’s set to join English League One side Doncaster Rovers due to Steven Gerrard’s inability to guarantee him first-team football next term.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

The youngster made 28 appearances last season but played just a handful of times after the winter break, with his opportunities drying up as Ryan Kent became more and more important to the team.

With Jordan Jones also arriving on the left flank this summer, he’s fallen further down the pecking order but will now be given the opportunity to shine in English League One.

Rangers supporters obviously want to see him succeed and believe he has the ability to grab his opportunity with both hands at Doncaster.

The hope will be from their perspective that he can prove himself to Gerrard and begin to make regular appearances in 2020/21.

West Ham United: Transformation of transfer policy has club thinking big

Frankly, we are of the opinion that West Ham United’s approach to the transfer market has exponentially improved of late. Indeed, the recent smart buys of the likes of Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop have bettered the squad and, more recently, the capture of the highly-rated Pablo Fornals had Guillem Balague purring on the club’s official website.

Diop, signed for a club record £22 million, not only proved to be worth every penny by averaging the best defensive stats in the side (comparisons made by Squawka), but could now be worth so much more. Indeed, TF1 (via the Sun) reported recently that Manchester United had a £45m plus an unnamed player bid rejected by the Hammers.

The Frenchman’s clear impression on a giant such as the Red Devils, as well as Balague’s reaction to the Fornals coup, certainly indicates an improvement in transfer strategy. After all, Jamie Carragher criticised the Irons’ policy in that area when writing in the Daily Mail back in 2016, so it’s not hard to argue that there were clear issues.

Now, those in East London are seemingly building on this further as they reportedly attempt to lure another top-level talent to the club. According to the Independent, they’re open to a potential Diop departure IF Anthony Martial is included as part of the deal. Ambitious stuff.

Nobody is denying Diop’s work and averaging 2.1 tackles, 4.7 clearances, 1.9 interceptions and 2.3 aerial duels won (stats WhoScored) per 90 mins proves how crucial he was to marshalling the troops. However, Martial is a special talent talked up by the likes of Bryan Robson – who said the former Monaco man could go onto become a ‘great’ at Old Trafford – as well the recipient of the prestigious Golden Boy Award in 2015.

When you look at the fact that he’s reached double figures in three seasons (via WhoScored) for Manchester United, it’s not hard to argue he’d improve the Hammers’ attack, a collective unit that saw only two players hit double digits for goals.

Frankly, in terms of status, he’d arguably be the biggest name to arrive since Carlos Tevez.

The report does claim that decision-makers at the Theatre of Dreams are keen on retaining the French international’s talent and potential, though the fact that West Ham have even demanded what would be a coup shows how the shift in transfer policy has them thinking progressively and ambitiously.

Arsenal: Club can’t afford to waste time on Kieran Tierney deal

It’s the news Arsenal fans have seemingly been waiting a lifetime for, but finally, the first real transfer update dropped over the weekend, and it got supporters excited.

David Ornstein can lay claim to being one of the most reliable Arsenal sources in world football, and when the news came from the BBC Sport journalist that club had a bid for Kieran Tierney rejected but there was optimism a deal could be reached, it sent the Gunners fan base into raptures, but it also painted an image that supporters have seen before.

Just this January we saw Arsenal stumble on deals for the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Christopher Nkunku, two players Ornstein also reported were on the club’s radar at the time, but as we know, both names didn’t join the north London side that transfer window, and now Unai Emery has to ensure the Gunners don’t stall on a deal for Tierney.

The Scottish left-back has been a player a majority of Arsenal fans want to see signed this summer, with the Celtic defender an established player in the biggest side in the Scottish Premiership and one of the most exciting prospects to come from north of the border in some time having captained both his boyhood club and Scotland already on multiple occasions.

All signs of a deal coming through all look positive, but this isn’t the first time Arsenal have been in this position, and the fans won’t stand for it if Emery manages to fail in signing Tierney this summer.

Arsenal fans, will the club sign Tierney this summer? Let us know!

Liverpool fans have their say on how much Alexander-Arnold is worth

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing how much Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth as Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s £50m move to Manchester United looks set to be completed.

Trent was the third-highest assister in the Premier League last season, breaking the record for number of goals set up by a defender.

Aged just 20, Alexander-Arnold is certainly one of the best right-backs on the planet at the moment, and there is no reason why he can’t continue that for the next decade.

With extraordinary transfer fees being paid for full-backs nowadays, Reds supporters were asked how much it would take to prise the youngster from Anfield.

The response was overwhelming. Almost every fan wanted a nine-figure fee for their star, with many stating that a bid of around £150m would be enough.

As a local lad it is hard to see Alexander-Arnold leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side anytime soon, but if he does Liverpool fans will certainly be expecting him to fetch a hefty fee.

The Sun is reporting that United are to battle it out with Manchester City in order to sign Hoffenheim youngster Ilay Elmkies. West Ham are reportedly also interested in the 19-year-old who could end up leaving for training compensation in a year.

Sheffield United fans buzzing about Freeman signing

[ad_pod ]Sheffield United fans on Twitter are ecstatic after their club announced the signing of Luke Freeman from QPR.

The attacking midfielder’s fee wasn’t disclosed, but it can be inferred that he cost the Blades at least more than £4mÂafter it was announced as a club-record signing.

The former QPR man was also linked with Leeds United during this transfer window, but Chris Wilder’s side have beaten out their Yorkshire rivals in the race for his signature as they gear up for life back in the Premier League.

Wilder has seemingly been after a new number 10 this summer after being linked with Everton’s Kieran Dowell, and now he has got his man.

Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster posts on Instagram after bagging brace in pre-season

[ad_pod ]

Rhian Brewster was a real star in Liverpool’s convincing opening to the 2019 summer pre-season.

The Reds trounced Tranmere Rovers in a six-nil victory that saw them kick things off in true European champion’s fashion.

Their up and coming star forward, Brewster, played a key role in the steamrolling performance as he scored two goals to celebrate his big day with the senior team.

The 19-year-old is yet to be fully incorporated into Jurgen Klopp’s plans but the German was very much impressed with what he saw and he’s looking forward to the youngster’s exciting future.

Brewster took to Instagram shortly after the big win and shared his enthusiasm with the fans.

His snap was, naturally, met with a lot of positive feedback from his friends.

Ryan Sessegnon and Ian Rush were among the first ones to the scene and both were clearly impressed with Brewster’s performance.

Sessegnon called him “bro” and followed it up with some emojis, while Rush was less talkative and just let the emojis do their thing.

Many other players flooded the youngster’s Instagram and showered him with praise.

For now, it does seem like a start of something big.
