Chelsea are poised for a busy end to the summer window as they look to complete a plethora of deals, in terms of both incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues indirectly signed Julio Enciso as their latest acquisition, with the Paraguayan set to join Chelsea in 2026 following a year at sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1 – which is seen as a bargain £17 million deal for a player who’s already impressed in the Premier League.

Due to their complex arrangement with UEFA after being found guilty of breaching FFP rules, Chelsea must sell before they can buy right now.

The likes of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are expected to depart Stamford Bridge before the deadline on September 1, among others, and these exits will be crucial as Chelsea chase a double deal for Man United’s Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.

Chelsea are being forced to sell players who were in their Conference League squad last season so they can make room for the likes of Simons and Garnacho in their A-list Champions League squad, with sales of fringe men not counting towards their attempted ‘positive transfer balance’.

Unfortunately for Maresca, this means they need to find buyers for the likes of Nkunku and Jackson pretty quickly.

This approach has reinforced multiple areas across the pitch and allows for serious tactical flexibility, as well as responding to the inevitable injuries of a demanding season – which has already happened following Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka’s injuries last weekend.

While Saka is expected to miss four weeks, Odegaard could play against Liverpool on Sunday (football.london). Still, the north Londoners now have quality players to jump in their place, unlike last season.

Arsenal have covered every base: creativity, goals, stability and versatility. With the structure now there, Arteta’s side look ready and raring to take the final step and bring home a Premier League trophy after over two decades of waiting.

But, all that talk has now seemingly hushed now, with his new Gers boss in Russell Martin perhaps fancying giving him more concrete chances at Ibrox moving forward.

This could mean Birmingham have to seek out alternative targets.

After all, as Birmingham rises the divisions, the more out there and ambitious their signings can be.

A report from this month saw them linked with a move for Premier League regular Craig Dawson, with football journalist Alan Nixon reporting that both Wrexham and Derby County are also locked into a battle to land the vastly experienced 35-year-old.

Whilst Dawson has seen his game-time severely deplete under Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers reign, it’s very clear that the soon-to-be free agent would still be a rock-solid option for Wolves’ near neighbours in Birmingham.

A fierce competitor, he notably won 4.4 duels per game during the 2023/24 season in the Premier League when handed 25 top-flight outings.

Moreover, away from his colossal collection of 303 Premier League appearances impressing those looking in, the ex-West Ham United centre-back also possesses quite the reputation for being a fierce defensive body in the EFL, much like Davies.
